Subject: [risc-list] RISC at LEIDEN & PhD defense de Haan (March 11)
From: Ronald.Cramer at cwi.nl

Dear Colleague,

on *Wednesday March 11*, starting at *1500h*, Robbert de Haan (CWI/UL)
will defend his PhD thesis ``Algebraic Methods for Low Communication
Secure Protocols'' at Leiden University (*Academie-gebouw, Rapenburg 73,
Leiden*).

On this occasion there will be a special RISC seminar at the Mathematical
Institute, Leiden University, from 1100h until 1300h. The precise schedule
is given below.

We are very pleased to announce that Prof Carles Padro', Dr David Freeman
and Dr Alp Bassa have agreed to gives lectures on matroid theory and
secret sharing, network coding, and towers of functions fields and
self-dual codes, respectively. The themes of these talks fit quite nicely
with the general areas and techniques in Robbert's thesis.

You are cordially invited to both events.

NOTE: the cafeteria at the Mathematical Institute (MI) closes at 1330h, so
there is about half an hour for lunch after the talks. Alternatively, you
can have lunch nearby the Academie-gebouw. As you know, the MI is not part
of the center of Leiden (geographically speaking, that is), whereas the
Academie-gebouw *is* the center of Leiden, so to speak. If you have no car
or bike at your disposal, you should perhaps reserve approx. 30 min for
your transportation to the Academie-gebouw from the MI. Also, please be
present at the Academie-gebouw well in advance of the defense.
