PRE-DOCTORAL AND POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS IN SECURITY AND PRIVACY OFFERED
(Tarragona, Barcelona, Mallorca and Malaga)

"ARES: team for Advanced REsearch on information Security and privacy"
is a large project which gathers six of Spain's most
dynamic research groups in the area of information security
and virtually all Spanish groups in the area of information privacy.
In the CONSOLIDER call, ARES has ranked as one of the country's 
strongest research teams in all areas.

Members of the team have attracted European, American, Japanese,
Spanish, Catalan and Andalusian public and private funding.
They boast a remarkable publication record 
and a substantial collaboration with the industry. Most groups
in the team run graduate and Ph.D. programmes on security
and privacy.

The six groups in the team are based along the Mediterranean coast in:

- - Tarragona (Prof. Josep Domingo-Ferrer, ARES co-ordinator,
UNESCO Chair in Data Privacy, URV-Rovira i Virgili University)

- - Barcelona  
(Dr. Vicenc Torra, IIIA-CSIC; 
Dr. Jordi Herrera, UOC-Open University of Catalonia; 
Prof. Miquel Soriano, UPC-Technical University of Catalonia);

- - Palma de Mallorca (Dr. Josep Lluis Ferrer, UIB-University of the 
Balearic Islands);

- - Malaga (Assoc. Prof. Javier Lopez, UMA-University of Malaga)

REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates to the various predoctoral and postdoctoral
positions offered should have a high-quality degree in Computer Science,
Telecom Engineering or Applied Mathematics, have good communication
skills in English and be able to demonstrate strong motivation
to conduct research. For IIIA-CSIC, candidates must be EU nationals
or have residence and/or working permit in Spain.

STIPENDS:

The annual salary for pre-doctoral scholarships is around 16500 Euro 
a year before taxes and includes health insurance. 
The annual salary for a post-doctoral researcher is around 29000 Euro
a year before taxes and includes health insurance.
Slight variations on the above figures are possible depending 
on the specific university.

In addition, generous allowances are given to support presentation of work
at international conferences and to attend seminars and tutorials.
Yearly renewal of scholarships and post-doc contracts is conditional
on satisfactory progress, which is reviewed every year.

START DATE:

Start date is NOVEMBER 1, 2007, although it may be possible to start
later depending on the candidates' circumstance.
